Captain Scarlet (1 Peter 1:3-4)

Through the devoted efforts of a still active fan base, a cartoon series from the 60’s has re-emerged on Youtube….Captain Scarlet!

I avidly watched this show as a child, which, nearly 50 years later, seems oddly fresh. In fact, some of the animation techniques seems to have been adapted in some modern-day horror movies! The animation was cool, the music theme catchy, but it was the persona of Captain Scarlet that captured my attention. As he defended the earth against the Mysteron invaders, Captain Scarlet would seemingly be killed, only to miraculously survive to fight another battle. He was indestructible!

Was it just a coincidence that my hero was named Captain Scarlet and that every time he appeared to die, he miraculously survived? Did I identify with this mythical character because I, too, wanted to be like him?  Was God speaking to me so many years ago?

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.
1 Peter 1:3-4

Years later, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I learned of the scarlet thread of redemption that God has woven through the Bible. And through His blood and sacrifice, I have gained an indestructible and incorruptible reward of salvation. I, too, will live forever, but not on earth fighting alien invaders. I will live in Heaven in the presence of my Lord and my God, Jesus Christ.

Captain Scarlet was cool, but he was just a cartoon. Jesus Christ is reality and only through Him do we find everlasting life!

Aloha blessings!
